Modern Tools for NTD Control Programmes

Course overview

Graduation certificate for 2015 Short Course participantA practical hands-on course to provide training in available epidemiology and NTD mapping tools. This 4 day course is designed to help participants to design, implementation and evaluation of targeted and cost-effective NTD control activities. 

Course content

An important focus of the course is the software package qGIS. Over the four days participants are introduced to the basics of this software package and provided with they training then need to feel comfortable and confidence using this tool in their everyday work. 

The course covers:

  • An overview of the epidemiology of NTDs and princples of mapping and surveys
  • Effective data management for mapping
  • Basic theory of Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • How to use data to produce GIS maps

This course is a collaboration between the London Applied & Spatial Epidemiology Research (LASER) Group at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, the London Centre for Neglected Tropical Disease Research (LCNTDR) and the Ethiopia Federal Ministry of Health.
