The Breakthroughs blog of the Global Health Technologies Coalition (GHTC) covered this week's congressional briefing on NTDs held on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. The June 17th meeting was entitled The Role of the U.S. Government and the Case for Scaling Up Treatment and Accelerating Innovation for the World’s Most Neglected Patients. Delegates from Doctors Without Borders, Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) and the Philadelphia Research and Educational Foundation discussed with U.S. policymakers the urgency of increasing and improving the United States' NTD programmes.
According to the blog, the US Agency for International Development (USAID) has helped deliver more than half a billion treatments in six years to more than 250 million people, but it should now focus its efforts on new NTD drugs, vaccines and diagnostics.
