World Water Day 2014 and NTDs: 2.5 billion people around the world currently lack access to WASH, leading to increased risk of NTD infection.

14 March 2014

World Water Day 2014 is on March 22nd this year, and in the lead up to that, the END7 campaign has put together a blog and an infographic to shed light on the importance of access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH). 2.5 billion people around the world currently lack access to WASH, leading to increased risk of NTD infection.

NTDs like schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminths thrive in areas with poor WASH access, making collaboration between NTD control and WASH partners increasingly important. To this end, recently launched manuals provide country-specific guides for WASH implementers to access information about NTDs present in their areas of practice. By targetting their interventions to areas with greater need, WASH actors can have a bigger impact across sectors.
