Survey data map

These maps show the survey location and prevalence from available empirical field survey data. They are useful for showing graphically the distribution of survey data and for highlighting where such data is lacking. They also illustrate differences in the observed prevalence of worm infection both across the country and within admin-level 2 units ('districts').

Soil-transmitted helminths

For STH, the map shows the location of STH surveys and the reported combined prevalence of infection (with any STH species) across the country. Combined STH prevalence is calculated from the reported prevalence of each species using simple probability, incorporating a simple correction factor allowing for associations between STH species.

  • The inset map shows the district-level prevalence of infection, calculated as a simple mean average of surveys conducted in each district.  Districts shaded grey indicate an absence of survey data.

Schistosomiasis

For schistosomiasis, the map shows the location of surveys across the country. Survey locations are categorized by the maximum prevalence of either schistosome species (S. haematobium or S. mansoni).

  • The inset maps show separately the location, and reported prevalence, of surveys for S. haematobium and S. mansoni.
